Astro Bot won four awards, including game of the year, at The Game Awards on Thursday night. Astro Bot also walked away with the awards for best game direction, best action/adventure game and best family game.
The ceremony featured appearances from some of the most notable figures in the entertainment and video game industry including Aaron Paul, Ella Purnell, Harrison Ford, Hideo Kojima, Khalid, Laura Bailey, Todd Howard and Troy Baker.
The Game Awards also debuted world premieres for upcoming video game releases from studios such as Borderlands 4 from Gearbox Software, Dispatch from Adhoc, Elden Ring Nightreign from FromSoftware, Inc., Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet from Naughty Dog, Mafia: The Old Country from Hangar 13, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds from SEGA, Split Fiction from Hazelight Studios, Stage Fright from Ghost Town Games and The Witcher 4 from CD Projekt Red.

The event was also marked with a musical appearance from Snoop Dogg, who premiered new music from his upcoming album Missionary, which will release Dec. 13. Other musical appearances included Twenty One Pilots, and music artists d4vd and Royal & the Serpent, who performed original songs from season two of the Netlflix animated hit Arcane. The series is based off of the popular video game League of Legends, from Riot Games.
Musical scores from this year’s game of the year nominees were performed by The Game Awards Orchestra, the conductor for which was BAFTA- and Emmy-nominated composer Lorne Balfe.
The best adaptation award is meant to honor the best live-action adaptations from popular video games. This year, Amazon‘s hit TV series Fallout took the prize. Series star Ella Purnell, producer Jonathan Nolan and game creator Todd Howard took the stage to accept the award. Nolan teased more to come with the hit TV series and poked fun at fans of the video game series. “I want to thank the fans of Fallout: New Vegas for not burning my house to the ground, you’ll be very happy you didn’t,” he said.
The Game Awards ceremony also acknowledged the unprecedented layoffs that have taken place throughout the video game industry in recent years. The show awarded Amir Satvat with the first ever game changer award, recognizing him for his commitment to helping laid-off video game developers find new work, keeping track of job openings and helping an estimated 3,000 developers get back on their feet after experiencing layoffs.
